Glyceryl trinitrate
Indications/Uses
Treatment & prophylaxis of angina pectoris & treatment of variant angina.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1-2 spray sublingually, may be repeated approx every 5 min as needed. Max: Not ≤3 spray w/in 15 min period. Prophylaxis 5-10 min before engaging in activities that might precipitate acute attack.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to nitrates. Hypotension, hypovolaemia, severe anaemia, cerebral haemorrhage & brain trauma, mitral stenosis & angina caused by hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy. Concomitant use w/ phosphodiesterase inhibitors.
Special Precautions
Lack of effect may be indicator of early MI. Avoid use in patients w/ incipient glaucoma. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, dizziness, postural hypotension, flushing, tachycardia, paradoxical bradycardia.
Drug Interactions
Cross tolerance to other nitrates. Potentiated hypotensive effect w/ alcohol, phosphodiesterase inhibitors.
